Mike and his mum moved to the Bude area when Mike was three years old. Mikes Mum always a very keen swimmer, got Mike swimming at the age of 3 and started him surfing at age 6.
Mike won his first surfing competition at the age of 14 and was mens European circuit winner by the age of 17 (still a junior) collecting many national titles and surfing for the Cornish, English and British Teams until the age of 34 when he stopped competing and concentrated on Raven Surf School.
Mike is holding an ASI level 4 Master surfing coach accreditation.
Raven Surf School is also an ASI Instructor Training Centre (ITC). Mike is an ASI Level 4 Trainer (the highest level attainable in the world) and is authorised to train others to be ASI accredited surfing instructors.

Mike and Nicky got married in 2003 and while on their honeymoon in Sri lanka. Mike taught Nicky to surf, which went really well and when they returned Nicky insisted they start Raven surf school!

Nicky has also lived in the Bude area most of her life ,spending 8 years working in London as a teacher. She moved back to Bude to get married to Mike, Taylor Raven came along in 2008 (Taylor surfing) Nicky puts all her efforts into the family and does all the phone calls and admin involved with Raven surf school.

Mike, Nicky and their excellent TEAM put all their energy into making Raven Surf School a top surfing school for beginners to advanced surfers of all ages.
We have run a Groms (kids) club for local kids since we began ,producing some surfing national champions.
We are working with Bude haven School and CATS ( Community Action Through Sports) on a project called URBAN SURF to give some kids an opportunity to get into surfing and learn new skills and in the future maybe to be trained by Mike to be surf coaches.
